About Jonathan Stein

For more than 30 years, I’ve worked with people who want to understand themselves and find a different way forward.

My early training was in psychology, transpersonal psychotherapy, and drama therapy. Over the years, I’ve worked in clinical settings, private practice, and coaching. My work has also been shaped by years of contemplative study and body-oriented practice.

Each of these has informed how I work, but so has what I’ve learned from sitting with people.

What Changed the Way I Work

Again and again, I met people who understood themselves remarkably well. They knew where their patterns came from and could often see exactly what had happened once a difficult moment was over. But that understanding didn’t always help while the pattern was happening. When something important was at stake, they could still find themselves overthinking, becoming certain of the worst, judging themselves harshly, or reacting in ways they hadn’t intended.

I became increasingly interested in the gap between understanding a pattern afterward and recognizing it while you’re inside it. That’s what led me toward the work I do today.

How I Work Now

I work as a transformational life coach with self-aware adults who have already learned a great deal about themselves but still find that old reactions can take over.

Sessions don’t feel like being analyzed. They feel more like slowing down enough to look at something together. We pay attention to what happens when things feel urgent, certain, or hard to step back from. Of course, most people want to feel better. But trying to force difficult thoughts and feelings away can add another layer of struggle. Instead, we slow down and make room for what’s already here. Over time, those feelings may soften, and you may find more room for peace, perspective, and choice.

My background informs this work, but I don’t bring a complicated framework into the conversation. What matters is whether what we’re doing helps you see your own experience more clearly.
